bike course aid station nutrition

Postby dab on Mon Oct 26, 2009 3:33 pm

the race information packet indicates that Hammer HEED will be provided on the bike and run courses.....

does anyone know EXACTLY how the HEED will be provided on the bike ? i'm not aware that this product comes packaged in individual bottles (as is with water bottles, or gatorade, for example), so i'm wondering how this will be done ? will volunteers fill bottles with pre-mixed HEED ? this seems highly improbable to me.... will Hammer Products deliver pre-packaged bottles ?

this could affect my race planning. i use Perpetuem (same as HEED, but with a little protein), so i'd welcome using the on-course nutrition where i can. brings me back to asking how HEED will be packaged / provided ?

any clues ?

I think last year there was a water bottle exchange, but if you wanted Heed you had to fill your bottles from coolers. Am I remembering this correctly? All I'm doing is exchanging water bottles. I'm bringing my own stuff as Heed messes me up bad, and I don't like the taste either.

that makes some sense, i suppose. i'm with you, i'd rather bring my own stuff than have to stop and refill. i handle HEED and perpetuem just fine, but not if i have to stop repeatedly. thanks for the input...

russ124. i thought of that. makes no sense to me; at what carb/calorie concentration would the bottles be mixed ? how would the bottles be filled in the frst place ? to my knowledge, Hammer products doesn't sell/provide pre-mixed bottles. that would be one hell of alot of bottles for volunteers to fill; that seems highlly impractical.

i emailed the race organizers with this question, no reply yet. will post if/when i hear.

They will be handing out pre mixed Heed in 20oz standard sized bike water bottles. They are going to be mixed with 1 scoop of Heed so that is 100 calories.
They will also be handing out Deer Park Sport Cap water bottles. I am not sure how these fit in a standard bike cage.
I received this info direct from Setup when I emailed a month or so ago.
