Coming from the Pacific Ocean......68-69 race day is WARM!! You can never go wrong in the US in a full-suit between October and May....make the investment. Also, in a full suit you don't have the gap drag around the arm holes you do in long john. We did a test in a pool workout and it was nearly a minute in 1000 yards. Another big tip to IM distance newbies.......don't wear a full set of clothes under your wetsuit! You would not jump in the pool to do a set in full pad bike shorts and 3 pocket bike jersey, why would you do that in a race? Save the effort in the water and take the extra :30 sec to throw them on in transition in the course of the day :30-:60 seconds in T1 or T2 to be dry and comfortable is well worth it.
