Practice Swim

Postby c2manymillers on Thu Oct 08, 2009 7:13 pm

Is it possible to swim the channel ahead of time? Does anyone know if there is a group that swims on weekends? I was hoping to get a long swim in this Sunday during a visit to Wilmington.

Hey,
It safe to swim the entire channel this weekend and I am all up for a Sunday swim. The best bet is to swim early before boat traffic picks up. Let me know...

I'll be coming in on Wed Nov 4 also and will need some OWS time as the highs are barely in the 50's here now and the lows for the next week are in the low to mid 30's. I'll have no wetsuit time until I get to NC.

I'd really like a chance to swim part of the course on Thursday.

Hi there! hope I'm not chiming in too late. A lot of my plans have suddenly changed and I'm now sadly heading down to NC without my friend/coach. We had been planning at least a swim (or two) before race day and would love to join a group swim (course preferred) later Wednesday or Thursday. I'm arriving in Willmington Wednesday.

I'm a slow swimmer and doing the half, but would love to meet up with some other people who are looking to get a feel for things!

I live in Ontario, Canada and don't get much opportunity for the "salty" water, so I'm looking forward to the challenge!

Cheers,

Mini

Welcome down to Wilmington.

Yes, there will likely be groups going out just after 7:00am on these days. I do not know of any groups specifically on Wed or Thursday right now but do know a group going on Friday.

Wed Tide high at 7:45 and Thrusday High is 8:28 so groups would start at either
a) south end by coast guard or at actual start point and swim to blockade runner hotel approx 1.5 m but you can get out shorter if you wanted. Drop shoes/towel/shirt at you intended exit point.
b) Hanover Seaside Center to either back and forth along the docks or across to harbor island (which requires equip drop)
c) Blockade Runner to either back and forth along the docks or across to harbor island (which requires equip drop)

On friday - I am pretty sure their will be a group going from hanover seaside or blockade and i will try to post back on that too.

Peace
