Swim workout

I am vacationing at Wrightsville Beach next week and would love to get in some swimming. Are there any groups that swim in the intracoastal waterway?

swimming at Wrightsville

Postby ironhopeful on Tue Jun 30, 2009 4:12 pm

Hey There,
There are always plenty of swimmers at Wrightsville Beach in the early morning hours. If you show up at the Blockade Runner dock slightly before 6am you can join in a few different swim distances. Depending on the tide you can swim back across the channel 1500 meters to SeaPath Marina, or you can walk down to the Coast Guard station and swim to Sea Path for about 1.4 miles or you can swim from Blockade Runner to Coast Guard on an outgoing tide. The swim directions/distances will usually depend on the tide direction. Regardless, just show up at Blockade Runner dock a little before 6am. There are always swimmers out there. I swim on Tuesdays/Thursdays and vary the distance depending on tide. Aslo, you can leave shoes at your exit point and run back to your car or around the beach some or simply plan on walking back. Nothing is too far at the island is small Hope to see you there. No worries about not knowing anyone. We are all just swimmers aiming to get from one shore to another!
